Boschaero\Naval Research Lab Daily Report
Tuesday 5-4-99

After clearing most of his flight gear from the trunk of the car, Jim and I get ready for today's flight.
Allen working on some wiring issues.
I installed the new halon fire extinguishers in a location where we in the cockpit could reach then easily.
One of the cockpit GPS systems was moved to the back so our location could be monitored and recorded on a lap top.
Justin is fitted for his safety harness and dons his life preserver.
Justin decided to use our GPS and software package, however it was not saving the airspeed and was only saving information to a file in one minute increments. After several phone calls to Jim's brother, and a little begging, we were able to get software modifications emailed to us. Brian wrote the original code and was able to modify it. Thanks a bunch Brian!!
This is a close up of the NOAA radiometer.
By now, Jim has had his fill of the paparazzi.
After the arrival of the Crossbow system Justin works the software end of things as Allen levels the sensor for calibration.
A view of the software as Allen moves the sensor box.
The Crossbow sensor has been mounted to the floor as close to the payload sensor as possible
Allen, Mike and Justin all geared up for the flight.
The boys fire up their gear as we run the engine up just prior to take off on a test flight of the new gear.
After synchronizing the times on the lap top, video camera and the GPS we are ready to go. The actual compass heading will recorded on video tape for data review later.
Win95 in the cockpit for the Crossbow display. (Thanks Mary!)
Just after take off on our short test flight. Inbound to the airfield we practiced an ILS (instrument landing system) approach.
